Straight (2009)(Hindi)-- Movie Review

Story:
Movie started when Vinay Pathak was moving to India to get married and later his fiancé ditched him. He came back and said that he got married but because of the visa problem his wife will come late. Dramatically Anuj Choudhary and Gul Panag get entry in his restaurant first and then in his heart. He found a good pal in Anuj and love in Gul.

Now what so strange in it?? Well… movie is not yet over, even it’s not even time for intermission. Vinay picked one lottery for Anuj, and Anuj won that. He was so happy that he smooched Vinay (yes, you read it right!! The first ever male to male smooch in the movie as I understand Dostana’s smooch was camera effect). Now it was a question for Vinay regarding his orientation as he was still virgin. He didn’t want to be called Gay. He started ignoring Anuj. He tried to get hooked u with a girl who was mad for him for some fun, but he couldn’t and that makes him more conscious. He tried having tablets, but all in vein. Gradually his feelings towards gay people changed and he learned that it’s wrong to refuse your love.

What happened next?? Well, you have to go for the movie for it…

Review:
It was second movie of Parvati Balgopalan as director after Rules: Pyaar ka Superhit formula and she did a commendable job when it comes to male’s orientation related issues. Vinay and Gul were good in their work, as usual. Anuj came with a fresh face and he did proper justice with his role. Ketki Dave was again in her Gujju Ishtyle.
Dostana released recently on the same subject. If ask me to compare, I would say, Dostana was having good humor and it was funny movie but when it comes to the subject, Straight did the proper justice.
Straight could have been better at some point. Some more reels required to portray Vinay’s relation with Gul and his cousin and about gay community, which could take it to new heights.
Music was good, especially the lyrics, “Humse Jo Churaye Humko hi, Usko hi kahte hai Tanhaayi” were simply awesome. My suggestion , go for it for a light entertainment with a new subject.
